The 1st International Conference on Emerging Signal Processing Applications (ESPA) is primarily serving practicing engineers and will have a strong emphasis on applications and cutting edge practical SP. ESPA is co-located with and follows the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to enable attendees to attend both CES and ESPA and learn about SP technology in the latest products announced in CES, as well as the SP technologies that may help create future CES products. Attendees will learn about emerging applications of Signal Processing including (but not limited to):

  • 3D technology for gaming, telepresence
  • Gesture recognition for games and natural user interfaces
  • Digital photography
  • 4G wireless
  • Robotics
  • Multimedia tablets
  • SP in automobiles: speech interfaces, cameras
  • Voice search
  • SP with multicore processors
  • IPTV

Attendees will learn about the current technologies from the major industry and academic players in the field, and about the future directions from visionary keynote speakers. In addition to keynotes, panel discussions on hot topics, and tutorials, we would like to focus attention on the following two important parts of ESPA:

Presentations with or without an associated paper.: Unlike other IEEE SP conferences which require a paper submission, ESPA provides the option of oral presentation only, to enable presentations on new technologies announced at CES.

Show & Tell: A highlight of ESPA will be demonstrations of novel applications of signal processing.

Plenary Speakers

  • Gene Frantz, TI Principal Fellow, IEEE Fellow
  • Dr. Raj Talluri, VP Qualcomm

Special panels

  • "3D" Panel (Dr. Anthony Vetro, MERL, IEEE Fellow and co-editor for MPEG Multiview video coding standard)
  • Future of Mobile (Dr. John Apostolopoulos, Hewlett-Packard Labs)

Tutorials - Free to all registered attendees

  • Android application framework and application development
  • Real-time DSP: A hands-on tutorial using the OMAP-L138
  • Optimization methods and their applications in digital signal processing
  • Adaptive filters: from designs to applications
  • Image processing and computer vision
  • Scalable video coding and its applications
